Bluetooth makes life so much easier in ways we don’t usually realize. There have been many recent developments in Bluetooth technology, especially with features such as continuity, switching, and file sharing. Then there’s iBeacon and several other technologies that rely on Bluetooth LE.
On your Mac, the message “Bluetooth is not available” may appear and the message will not connect. If you encounter this problem, please follow these instructions to resolve it.
Fix Tips to fix “Bluetooth is not available” error on Mac
Method 1
Step 1. Exit any running application or System Preferences on your Mac that is trying to establish a connection with Bluetooth.
Step 2. In macOS Finder, press Command + Shift + G keys.
Step #3. It will launch “Go to Folder” and type /Library/Preferences/ in it.
Step 4. Search for the file with the extension ” com.apple.Bluetooth.plist ” and delete it. If there are other files with the same extension, delete them too.
Go back to the desktop and click the Apple menu.
Step #6. Select Shutdown.
After some time, restart your Mac and resync your Bluetooth device.
What it does is create a new .plist file for the Bluetooth configuration. Hopefully this will fix the Bluetooth connectivity issue on your Mac.
If method 1 does not work.
Method 2. Restart your SMC
If you still encounter problems after following the above method, you can try resetting your SMC (System Management Controller). It works differently for different kinds of Macs.
Resetting SMC in MacBook or MacBook Pro (with removable battery)
Step 1. Turn off your MacBook or MacBook Pro and remove the battery.
Step 2. Remove/disconnect the power adapter.
Step #3. Press the power button for 10 seconds.
Step #4. Connect the battery and power adapter.
Step #5. Turn on your MacBook or MacBook Pro.
Step #6. Start your Mac as usual.
How to reset SMC in a MacBook AIr, MacBook Pro Retina, or MacBook Pro (with non-removable battery)
Step 1. Turn off your MacBook (any of the above versions).
Step 2. Connect the power adapter to your Mac.
Step #3. Press Control + Shift + Option keys and Power button simultaneously for a while and then release these keys.
Step #4. Start the boot as usual.
How to reset SMC in iMac, Mac Pro, Mac Mini.
Step 1. Turn off your Mac.
Step 2. Disconnect/unplug the power cord.
Step #3. Press and hold the power button of your Mac for 5-10 seconds, then release.
Step #4. Connect the power cord and boot normally.
